Transport for repair

Contact : Important initial steps of your restoration enquiry.

We're always happy to discuss the products and services on offer and explain any restoration options that may be available to you on all types of antique and modern china, pottery and porcelain and studio pottery.

Collect as many pieces of the damaged item as you can and protect them from further damage by wrapping them separately and storing them in a safe location. Please do not attempt to carry out any repairs prior to seeking professional advice. The use of superglue prior to the piece arriving at the studio will extend the restoration period and increase the repair costs due to the time scale required to remove it and on some occasions it has resulted in the restoration being compromised as correct re-alignment cannot be achieved.

Estimates for repair

19/07/21 : With the recent change in government guidance on Covid-19, we are very aware that safety is still top of mind for many of our clients and ourselves.

07/06/21 : New enquiries are welcome and we're very happy to supply estimates for enquiries that are made using the email address or contact details that can be found at the top of each page of this website. We do ask for digital images of the damage involved to be attached to any initial enquiry to assist us in forming your estimate. A backlog of work that built up due to Government restrictions around Covid-19 is now easing, however, a waiting list continues in operation and general details are found on our 'Services' page. Information regarding the current waiting period that clients should take into consideration prior to any work starting is available on enquiry.

Please contact us with your initial enquiry by email or phone using the contact options on this website and we'll advise you on the best way to proceed with your specific restoration request. Check the services page for details of our waiting list and restoration timescales. Our Terms and Conditions link below gives details of notification of completion, timescales for collection, invoice due dates and storage charges that may apply, a copy of which is available on request.

Ideally, if you are able to supply digital images during this initial stage that give of good general idea of the damage involved then you can include all relevant images as email attachments and a restoration estimate will be compiled and returned to you.

Restoration to gilding is part of the services we offer. A close match is achievable for most types of gilding but a workshop examination is always required prior to confirmation of this part of the restoration process as assessing gilding requirement from images can be difficult. Highly reflective or "mirror" type reflective gilded areas are challenging to repair to an original finish and advice would be given in such circumstances.

Local Collection and Delivery

26/05/21 : As of 01/06/21 our local collection and delivery service covering the Exeter area is being re-introduced after being suspended in March 2020 due to Covid-19 restictions. This is a chargeable service and will continually adapt as the Government and NHS advice unfolds with regard to the Covid-19 virus to safeguard all clients and ourselves during this period.

National Coverage

Return delivery charges are quoted separately and the responsibility of the client. We use the Royal Mail 'Special Delivery Next Day' service, a 'signed for' service which offers a guaranteed next working day delivery. Please note that ceramics and glass are on the list of exclusions for compensation for most delivery and courier services. However, Royal Mail Special Delivery is processed completely separately from the standard postal traffic and is handled with extra care. Please ensure that you pack all items with sufficient protection to ensure that no further damage is caused in transit. Please contact your chosen courier for further details of weight and dimension limitations, packing advice, compensation exclusions and all other services offered. Please extend your insurance cover during the in transit and repair process.
